About the role

A great career opportunity exists for a dedicated and conscientious Analyst to join our collaborative Risk team. Working in a small team responsible for all areas of risk including credit risk, portfolio analysis and operational risk, you will have an opportunity to recommend and influence the implementation of tailored solutions across all areas of the company. You will champion stakeholder engagement through your direct exposure to senior managers and be able to participate in decision making and contribute to strategic direction.

About you

  • Highly developed SQL skills are imperative
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Access
  • Experience diving into and analysing large amounts of complex data
  • Tertiary qualified in Finance, Economics or Commerce
  • Banking and finance or insurance related background would be beneficial

To be successful you will have the proven ability to recognise trends within data and present information and your commercial recommendations to add value to the business.

To be considered you must have a demonstrated background in business development and relationship management with proven experience in residential lending. A thorough understanding of consumer lending legislation is required, as is a current driver’s licence.

Liberty is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join the Risk Data Science team.

About the role

The ideal candidate will have a passion for identifying and answering questions across the business and a keen interest in financial FinTech.

  • Identifying and answering important risk and business wide questions by using statistical techniques on available data.
  • Using data mining and machine learning approaches such as decision trees, cluster analysis, artificial neural networks, and Bayesian networks.
  • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
  • Extending company’s data with third party sources of information when needed.
  • Communicating findings to the wider business.
  • Developing best practices for instrumentation and experimentation.
  • Assist with product direction by bringing in innovative ideas generated through data mining and data modelling.
  • Mentoring and supporting team members.

About you

  • Either 4+ years experience in a relevant role or MSc or PhD in a relevant technical field
  • Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
  • Comfortable manipulating and analysing complex, high-volume, high-dimensional data from varying sources.
  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering complex questions with data.
  • A flexible analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision.
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analyses in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.
  • Fluency with relational databases, SQL and excel.
  • In depth knowledge of analysis tools such as R and Python.
  • Integrity and high personal and professional standards.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with visualisation tools such as Shiny.
