Richard was appointed as Liberty’s Chairman in 2005. Richard was most recently Deputy Chairman of Lend Lease where he was a Director from 1986 to 2006 and Chairman of MLC until 2000. He was also a Partner with Freehills from 1971 to 1988 and a founding Principal of the corporate advisory and private equity group Wentworth Associates. Richard is a director of Investec (Australia) and a past Chairman of AustBrokers and past Director of Boral and Metcash.
Peter was appointed to Liberty’s Board in 2006. Peter spent 34 years at ANZ Banking Group in a variety of senior roles and was Group Managing Director – Group Strategic Development. Peter is a past Director of ING Australia Limited and ING (NZ) Limited, Treasury Corporation of Victoria, Clayton Utz, VISA International and Murray Goulburn Co-Operative. Peter is currently a Director of Westpac Bank Ltd, Bank of Melbourne, Mirvac Group Ltd and Crestone Holdings Limited.
Leona Murphy was appointed as a Director in 2016 from leading insurer IAG Limited where she held a number of Group Executive roles, including Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Transformation Officer. Prior to IAG she was an Executive General Manager with Promina Group and Vero Insurance. Leona is also an independent Director of Stone & Chalk and Co-Chair of UN Environmental Programmes Financial Initiative for Sustainable Insurance. Leona holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting and Law from Griffith University.
Sherman is the Executive Director of Liberty with operations across Australia and New Zealand. Sherman was previously with Credit Suisse and McKinsey & Company. Sherman has an MBA from the Wharton School and was first-in-class in Economics and Operations Research from the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a member of the Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board.
Heidi Armstrong leads Liberty’s marketing and communications efforts to champion better financial outcomes for consumers. Heidi draws on her diverse experience as a customer, business owner, lawyer, finance specialist and media commentator to actively advocate for small businesses, property ownership and helping consumers improve their relationship with money. Heidi won Best Industry Thought Leader at the 2014 Australian Lending Awards, holds Bachelor degrees in Law and Science and a Diploma in Mortgage Finance.
Anne Bastian heads our dynamic culture and community department and is a proud champion of Liberty’s inclusive workplace culture. Committed to learning and development, Anne is passionate about enhancing employee experience and facilitating new growth opportunities. With over 18 years’ experience at Liberty, Anne played an important role in establishing Liberty as an employer of choice. She holds a Bachelor of Business from Victoria University of Technology and a Graduate Diploma in Management from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
James Boyle is the visionary leader behind Liberty’s strategic direction. Working closely with the Board, James oversees a variety of operational functions while ensuring we remain agile, free thinking and curious. James received an MBA from INSEAD Graduate Business School in France, and also holds a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Business from the Australian Catholic University. James has been part of the Liberty group for more than 15 years and brings invaluable insight into the changing landscape of the financial services industry.
Glen Foley is the innovative and accomplished thought-leader responsible for driving Liberty’s customer engagement and technology departments. At the forefront of the tech industry, Glen is the founder of several start-ups and has acted as a software consultant within a range of industries. This includes human services, education, aerospace, not-for-profit, debt recovery and hospitality. Drawing on his vast experience and extensive consumer insight, Glen guides his teams to create meaningful connections that truly resonate with customers.
Felipe Flores is the driving force behind Liberty’s data science division. Under his leadership, the data team supports the business to achieve better commercial outcomes and deliver superior customer solutions. With more than 16 years’ experience, Felipe lectures at RMIT for the Masters of Data Science program, is co-organiser of the Data Science Melbourne Meetup group and produces a podcast called Data Futurology. He holds a Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering and a Bachelor of Business Management at the University of Queensland.
Rupert Hugh-Jones is the approachable and proactive driver of Liberty’s corporate affairs strategy. Responsible for guiding stakeholder engagement, Rupert plays an integral role in ensuring that Liberty remains Australia’s preferred lender. With over 30 years of corporate and public affairs experience, Rupert has held several senior positions and was most recently Head of Corporate Communications at Etihad Airways. Rupert has a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University and a Diploma in Financial Markets from Financial Services Institute of Australia (FSIA).
Lynne Jordan is the insightful head of Liberty’s risk and compliance division. Passionate about delivering effective customer outcomes while preserving best practices, Lynne ensures that all Liberty products and operations adhere to the required standards and regulations. Before joining Liberty, Lynne worked with Ford Credit for over 20 years in positions including Ford Group Treasurer, Australia and New Zealand. Lynne has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland.
Brendan O’Donnell is the passionate and driven director of Liberty Network Services. With more than 25 years’ experience in financial services, Brendan is committed to achieving excellent customer outcomes and supporting Liberty Advisers to grow their business. Before Liberty, he was CEO at Choice Aggregation Services. Brendan has also held executive management positions with Absa Group in South Africa. Brendan attended executive programs at INSEAD and the GIBS, qualified as a Chartered Marketer, and has a Chartered Associate Banking Diploma.
Dennis Rappoport manages Liberty’s credit risk requirements. A senior analytics expert with more than 15 years’ experience, Dennis has a proven track record for delivering transformative analytic projects and developing fast model deployment methodologies. Dennis enables our team to facilitate improved operational and strategic decision-making to support sustainable business operations. Dennis holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Science) and a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Statistics) from the University of Melbourne.
Peter Riedel is responsible for managing access to and control over capital for the wider Liberty group. Passionate about delivering efficient and effective financial solutions, Peter draws on his extensive knowledge to identify key insights to enhance business performance. Before joining Liberty, Peter spent 16 years at Deloitte providing merger and acquisition, valuation and capital raising advice to companies in the financial services industry. Peter is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Economics from Monash University.
Michelle Sparsi is the passionate and purpose-driven leader behind Liberty’s strategy and innovation efforts. During her tenure at Liberty, Michelle has gained extensive experience across customer engagement, sales, human resources and marketing. Michelle plays a key role in nurturing curious and empowered teams and is a champion of women in the workplace. She holds a Bachelor of Human Resources and a Graduate Diploma in International Business (Marketing) from Monash University.
