Liberty among first non-bank lenders approved for Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme

04/8/2026

Liberty today announced its approval as a participating lender in the Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme, supporting eligible home buyers to enter the property market sooner.

Administered by Housing Australia, the Scheme provides a guarantee on eligible loans, enabling approved applicants to purchase a home with a deposit from as little as 5%, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria and lender assessment requirements.

Liberty General Manager – Residential, Caesar Ibrahim said the move reflects Liberty’s focus on creating more pathways into the property market for Australian borrowers.

“We know saving a full deposit can be one of the biggest barriers for aspiring home buyers. By joining the Government’s 5% Deposit Scheme, we can help more customers move forward sooner,” he said.

“At Liberty, we take a flexible approach to lending and look beyond standard criteria. Our participation in the Scheme allows us to support more customers with solutions that reflect their individual circumstances. This is an important milestone not just for Liberty, but for the role non-bank lenders can play in expanding access to government-backed initiatives.”

Liberty’s inclusion broadens access across the lending market and provides eligible borrowers with greater choice when considering their options. Brokers will continue to play an important role in helping customers understand their options and determine whether the Scheme is suitable for their needs.

Eligible customers may be able to:

  • Purchase a home with a deposit from as little as 5%

  • No Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) means you have lower upfront costs

  • Access lending options assessed against individual circumstances

Applicants must meet the Scheme’s eligibility criteria, including requirements relating to borrower eligibility, property price caps and owner-occupier use. All applications remain subject to Liberty’s credit assessment and responsible lending obligations.

This announcement builds on Liberty’s commitment to helping more Australians get financial, with solutions designed for real-world circumstances.
